Bush names choice for Chief Justice

President Bush has nominated John Roberts to succeed Chief Justice William Rehnquist, who dies on Saturday.

Senate officials are considering three options: starting Roberts' confirmation on Tuesday with a delay built in on Wednesday for Rehnquist's funeral; starting the confirmation hearing on Thursday; or starting the confirmation hearing next week, the scenario considered to be the most likely.
