Tip On Installing An Olympus VN-960PC Digital Voice Recorder

Vn960pc I hope the following helps others, as I found similar complaints (with no fix) out on the web.

I just bought two Olympus VN-960PC Digital Voice Recorders--one for me (a re-manufactured one) and a brand new one for my son so he could record his college lectures and upload them to his computer.

I tried installing mine on an HP Pavilion 775y running Win XP Home Edition with no luck. I kept getting "a service installation section in this INF is invalid." I tried installing the recorder first; I tried installing the software first. No go.

I then tried installing it on an older Dell running WIN 98 and a newer Dell with XP Home Edition. Same problem. (I did install it successfully on a newer Dell with Win 2000 Pro.)

I called Olympus (because their website is totally worthless) and the guy I spoke with told me to drag the drivers folder from the CD onto my desktop and try again. Worked like a charm on both XP and Win 98.

Thank you it works

THe driver for the VN-960PC is here>>
driverguide.com/

you have to become a member but it does install.

the stuff on the olympus site is not the original cd content..I think this is.

My Wife and I where given the VN-960PC now understand why.

I have been searching all day for drivers for Windows XP Prp SP2.

I did manage to find and bookmark your site.

So you can say, Olympus messed up big time on the VN-960PC and being "I can not find any software for it at all."

That nice USB slot is rather usless.
Well I guess I can not complain, it was free.
:-)

I lost my setup cd that came with my VN 960pc digital voice recorder. I have looked and looked and found the download for the setup cd that came wtih it.

Unable to find the drivers on the cd, help? which folder for the 960 pc running xp pro

Man - was this a pain in the ass! Here's the steps I took, which worked for me, I'm running XP pro, SP2:

1. Tried everything described
2. Swore and broke things when it didn't work.
3. Installed the media wave app that came on the CD.
4. Manually copied the .inf and .sys files on the CD to the /windows/inf and /windows/system32 folder.
5. Reboot.
6. Reran driver update, selected automatic instead of specify location.
7. It detected two drivers on my hard drive, selected the first (can't remember which it was).
8. Holy crap, it worked. Hope that helps!

I have the same problem that Shane have...I accidentally deleted important files and need to recover them. Someone know about a program that we can use to recover thise files?

Thanks

dragging the drivers didn't work for me either. and the tech support phone call was about as useful as banging it on the ground a few times. matter of fact, i'll try that next.
thanks anyway

Hi there, I have an Olympus VN-3100PC voice recorder. I accidentally deleted some files and need to recover them.

I have file recovery software but the Olympus doesn't seem to let me access the device without going through its own software. Does anyone know of a way to directly access the device so the file recovery software can see the Olympus and look for the lost files? Thanks, Shane

Did anyone ever find the Olympus software, I have the vn 960pc but can't find (OK, I lost the CD). Anyone, Buhler?

i had the same problem for the vn-3100pc. the darnest thing happened once i unpluged my usb mouse and then ran a search for the drivers through device manager. i also had the drivers from the cd on the desktop, i dont know which of these things isolated the problem or if they all contributed but i hope that helps others before they return the device

Dave, your recorder should have come with a
CD that had the drivers on it. As you said, there is no help on their website. I would suggest that you call them. They will probably send you the CD, for a price.

Any luck on finding the drivers and the app for this device...the website does not have it

Didn't work for me, but you should be pleased to know that you'er the only person on the internet that talks about this. Being unique on the net is rare indeed! :-)
