Pajamas Media Presidential Straw Poll

For those of you who had given up on voting the the Pajamas Media Presidential Straw Poll, as did I, there's good news. Ron Paul is once again listed as a selection.

News Shorts: Mexico

Illegal aliens may not be the only thing crossing our southern border.  Dengue fever, a viral illness transmitted by mosquitoes, is a growing problem, particularly in Latin America.

Overall dengue cases have increased by more than 600 percent in Mexico since 2001, and worried officials are sending special teams to tourist resorts to spray pesticides and remove garbage and standing water where mosquitoes breed ahead of the peak Easter Week vacation season.

...More alarming is that a deadly hemorrhagic form of the disease, which adds internal and external bleeding to the symptoms — is becoming more common. It accounts for one in four cases in Mexico, compared with one in 50 seven years ago, according to Mexico's Public Health Department.

There is no drug to cure the disease, but proper treatment, including lots of rest and fluids, reduces fatalities to less than 1%. (Link: Dengue surging in Mexico, Latin America, Associated Press)

In Monterrey, Mexico, dueling drug cartels killed two police officers along with six other people in the ongoing war to control smuggling routes into the U.S.

The battle has led to beheadings, grenade attacks and execution-style killings across Mexico and the violence has taken a particularly heavy toll on police.

Mexican authorities think that the battle front may have moved into Monterrey from Nuevo Laredo, where hundreds have been murdered in battle for control of the lucrative, illegal drug market. (Link: 8 die in northern Mexico killing rampage, Houston Chronicle)

In a plan that would make any U.S. liberal proud, authorities in Mexico City are offering to trade computers for large-caliber firearms.

In an ambitiously noble effort to cut down the enveloping surge of drugs-related violence running amok throughout the crime-addled streets of Mexico City, chief of police Joel Ortega has announced that anyone prepared to surrender a high-caliber weapon, such as a machine gun, will receive a free computer in exchange. And, perhaps in the interests of scale and fair play, anyone turning in a smaller calibre handgun will be presented with either cash remuneration or an Xbox videogame console.

Rather than point out just how absurd the plan is, I think I'll just say "good luck with that." (Link: Mexico City offering computer hardware for surrendered guns, Monsters and Critics)

And yet another pledge. At this rate, I may have to start working some overtime!

Congressman Ron Paul, the leading voice in today's freedom movement, is running for President of the United States. Dr Paul represents our best opportunity to infuse the 2008 presidential elections with a conversation on personal freedom. But he can't succeed without the help of you and me! I'm putting my money where my mouth is by pledging a paltry 100 bucks to help his campaign, and I urge you to do the same.
Let's send a message to Washington and the media that this man and his message will not be ignored!

I will contribute $20 to Ron Paul's Presidential Campaign' - PledgeBank

Unfortunately, I don't think many people are aware of this pledge. I've made my pledge, now make me pay!

For the cost of a couple of pizzas or some designer coffees, you can proudly contribute and feel like a part of Ron Paul's Presidential Campaign effort. I thought that by doing it for $20, students and others could join in.

Remember, unlike Hillary, Rudy and the rest of the big government drones, Ron Paul is NOT FOR SALE. His campaigns have always been funded by regular people like us. We must come through for him again.

Thank you for your support. Please pass this on to others.

Dept. of Homeland Security Backs Off of RFID Chips

Citizens Against Government Waste reports that DHS proposed federal standards for Real ID no longer mandates the use of imbedded radio-frequency chips.

That would be citizens 1, Big Brother 0.

We Need More Doctors and Fewer Lawyers in Government

I love Senator Tom Coburn for the same reason I love Ron Paul--they have the guts to stand their ground,  stand for the taxpayer, and for the future of our children.

Check out this video of Doctor/Senator Tom Coburn of Oklahoma. As an added bonus, watch Missouri's own pork-meister, Kit Bond, go ballistic.

(Better still is the Grand Pooh-Bah of Pork, Ted Stevens (R, AK) threatening to resign--a promise we all wish he'd kept).

Vote Different Video

Update: According to NewsMax, a Zogby poll measured the reactions of likely Democrat voters to the 1984 video. Surprisingly, the reaction wasn't positive.

Two-thirds of likely Democratic primary voters who had viewed the "Hillary 1984" video now sweeping across the Internet and the American political landscape said it will not change their opinions of presidential candidates Hillary Clinton of New York and Barack Obama of Illinois, a new Zogby Interactive video survey shows.

But the remaining one-third of likely primary voters were three times more likely to favor Clinton over Obama after seeing the video, the survey shows. Of those polled, 21 percent said they were either "offended" or "bothered" by the video, and that it made them more likely to support Clinton as a result. Just 7 percent said they were either "entertained" or "excited" by the video and were, as a result, more likely to support Obama's run for the nomination.

Even though it would be a cold day in hell before I'd vote for Barak Obama, I have to admit that this video is sheer genius. No doubt this will be all it takes for those who let emotion override intellect. (Hat Tip to techPresident)
