Senator Bond Shafts Missouri

While Senator Claire McCaskill (D) made good on her promise by voting against cloture on the Kennedy/Bush/McCain immigration sham, Senator Bond flipped Missourians the bird by voting for cloture.

Late in the afternoon, Senator Bond (B, for Bozo) tried to convince Sean Hannity's listeners that he had done a wonderful thing. The reasoning went something like this: now Bond gets to take the Senate floor and explain to his partners in crime why this is such a bad bill. Bowled over by his skilled oratory, they will be properly chastised and wonder why the hell they every considered this steaming turd of a bill. (The whole thing was pretty difficult to follow. Bond's explanation was convoluted--in fact, he sounded positively senile). Adding to the confusion was the fact that Hannity thought Bond had voted against closure.

Senator Bond, I'm sure your constituents are letting you know know in no uncertain terms that we much prefer McCaskill's no B.S. approach to the matter. Not that you seem to care.

I'd hope that Missouri Republicans can get over their partisanship long enough to call Senator McCaskill's office and THANK HER. I called...right after I fired off a rather acid critique of Senator Bond's performance to his DC office.

So Where Does McCaskill Stand On Immigration?

The Politico reports that Senator McCaskill has said that the immigration fiasco bill would need to "change a lot" in order to win her vote.  But what does that mean? That we aren't giving away enough? That is isn't tough enough? With Missouri's junior senator, it's difficult to say.

We do remember, however, what she said during her campaign:

* We are a sovereign nation and border security has to be a top priority, especially since 9/11. Additionally, it's about American workers and the middle class.

* This new program would cost our taxpayers $54 billion over the next 10 years. I can't see how we can ask taxpayers to pay this price in support of foreign workers we may not even need and put at risk programs that Missourians rely upon.

* Big corporations that exploit illegal immigrants for cheap labor hurt the economy because they bring down wages and cost American jobs. I am also aware that once those illegal workers are removed, we have an entirely new set of labor force issues. I believe that we need to crack down on our illegal immigration problem first, enforce our laws evenly and fairly, and then put the labor needs of this state on the table to deal with that out in the open.

If you want to attempt to pin Senator McCaskill down on her position, here's the contact information:

Washington Office: Phone:  (202) 224-6154   Fax: (202) 228-6326

Main District Office:Phone: (816) 421-1639   Fax: (816) 421-2562

While you're at it, hold Senator Bond's feet to the fire. He may be contacted at the following:

Washington Office: Phone:  (202) 224-5721   Fax: (202) 228-8149

Main District Office:Phone: (573) 624-2488    Fax: (573) 634-6005

The rumor is that Senator Bond is considering retiring. While he may not care that you won't vote for him again, he may  (unlike Bush) still care about the Republican Party enough to keep it from committing suicide.

The Left And Right Unite--Impeach Bush!

The cries to impeach President Bush are ramping up from an unexpected quarter--Free Republic! It seems  that many Freepers are as angry as I that Bush, with  the help of our corrupt Congress, is getting ready to sell out our country next week. Angry enough to call for his ouster because he will not defend out borders.

I'm all for it. Impeach Bush and then clean out about 90% of Congress while we're at it.

Monday would be a good day to bury Congress in phone calls and faxes. Let your anger over the massive amnesty program they are ready to foist on us be known.

Ask Claire McCaskill to Stop Amnesty Bill

Here's a copy of the fax I sent to Claire McCaskill, asking her to honor her campaign promises.

Senator Claire McCaskill
825A Hart, U.S. Senate
Washington, MO 20510

Dear Senator McCaskill,

I am counting on you to stop Senator Kennedy's amnesty bill.

Senator, Missouri is counting on you to stand by the views you shared with us during your campaign:

* We are a sovereign nation and border security has to be a top priority, especially since 9/11. Additionally, it's about American workers and the middle class. I could not have voted for this bill because I disagreed with the provisions on undocumented workers.

Your words, Senator, concerning a bill that wasn't as bad as the one now proposed.

P.S. Missouri's voters are counting on you to oppose Senator Kennedy's giant amnesty bill.

To the Delight of Jorge Bush, Senators Kennedy & McCain Are Poised to Ram Giant Amnesty Bill Down Your Throat

Whose input did Kennedy and President-Never-Gonna-Happen McCain have while concocting their immigration fraud bill? Why, "key stakeholders" such as:

  • Immigration Lawyers (chasing the immigration ambulance)
  • The ACLU (American Communist's Lawyer's Union)
  • Big Business (U.S. Chamber of Commerce, looking for cheap labor)
  • Big Labor (looking for more union dues)
  • The National Council of La Raza (on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being the radical left and 10 being the free market right, Capital Research Center gave NCLR a rating of 3.  Big business is also in bed with the NCLR, by contributing butt loads of grant money.

Daily Kos has a good rundown on what the bill will contain. What it all boils down to is that, as always, a massive amnesty will be granted (which will only encourage even more illegal immigration) and everything else will fall by the wayside.

Mark Krikorian, executive director of the Center for Immigration Studies, has this to say:

An old Russian saying tells us, "Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me."

Having been burned by this 1986 experience, congressional Republicans last year insisted on an "Enforcement First" approach, demanding that real enforcement measures be implemented, funded, and shown to be working before any discussion of amnesty for the illegals already here would go forward. As Thomas Sowell wrote: "It will take time to see how various new border control methods work out in practice and there is no reason to rush ahead to deal with people already illegally in this country before the facts are in on how well the borders have been secured."

You and President Bush and others have disagreed, claiming that immigration cannot be controlled without an amnesty and huge new guestworker programs. This is an assertion untethered to any evidence—in fact, other than beefing up our still-inadequate effort at the border itself, we've never seriously tried to enforce the immigration law, so how can you know it won't work?

On the contrary, the Center for Immigration studies has used the government's own statistics on churn in the illegal population to estimate that we could reduce the number of illegal aliens by about half in five years, mainly by using ordinary law-enforcement techniques to persuade more and more of them to give up and deport themselves. We have seen this work in certain short-lived instances where the government summoned the gumption to stand up to the elite interests that support open borders. (Krikorian, Mark. None Dare Call It Amnesty, LA Times)

The Senate Judiciary Committee will begin hearings on "comprehensive immigration reform" tomorrow, I believe. Contact your senator and tell him/her that you want our laws and our sovereignty upheld. You can find their contact information here.

Iraqis Caught Trying Enter U.S. Illegally

Eleven Iraqis were arrested in Mexico for trying to enter the U.S. (through San Diego) with fake passports.

Investigators said they determined the fake passports had been issued in Turkey and Cyprus, the newspaper said. During interrogation, group members said they had each paid as much as $10,000 for the passports and new identities that said they were Christian refugees fleeing the war in Iraq.

Gee, President Bush, do you suppose these people were coming to clean toilets and work in your garden?

While this particular group may have been (or may not have been) "friendlies," it is clear that our wide-open borders continue to pose a danger.

Bush Should Pardon Border Agents Ramos and Compean

Is there any limit to Bush's sucking up to the Mexican government?

Since he has been in the White House, President Bush has handed out 113 pardons--16 of those were in 2006.

A sampling of those pardoned, according to CNN:

  • A man who conspired to defraud the U.S.
  • Several for the distribution of cocaine
  • Several more for bank fraud
  • A Connecticut man, for accepting kickbacks

Absent from those year-end pardons were Border Agents Ramos and Compean. These agents were convicted of shooting Osvlado Aldrete-Davila, a drug smuggler from Mexico, and then trying to cover it up.

Aldrete was shot in the buttocks as he fled across the Rio Grande into Mexico after a confrontation with Ramos and Compean. The agents said they shot in self defense, but prosecutors charged that they had no reason to shoot at the fleeing man, who later claimed he was unarmed. (Ex-border agents sentenced for shooting smuggler--DallasNews)

Ramos said that he saw a shiny object in Aldrete-Davila's hand and thought that it was a gun; the prosecution said that he was unarmed. Who wouldn't take an admitted drug smuggler at his word?

Relatives of the smuggler had this to say:

Two of Aldrete-Davila's family members, interviewed by the Daily Bulletin in El Paso last week, said Aldrete-Davila has been smuggling drugs since he was 14 and "wouldn't move drugs unless he had a gun on him," said one. (Carter, Sara. Where is the proof? Those backing border agents want to see evidence of wrongdoing daily bulletin)

The prosecution asserted that the agents were just "out to shoot Mexicans" that day, which seems rather odd since both agents are of Hispanic background.

Because there was gunfire, the mandatory-minimum prison sentence the agents will serve is 10 years. The U.S. Probation Office in El Paso, Texas, has recommended 20 years -- 20 years away from their wives and their children, and among the type of people they've put behind bars.

As for Aldrete-Davila, he faces no charges for the 743 pounds of pot. That leaves him free to carry out his plan to sue the Border Patrol -- that is, U.S. taxpayers -- for $5 million because his civil rights were violated. What a country. (Saunders, Debra. The Border Patrol Inquisition Real Clear Politics)

Ramos, who was nominated for Border Patrol Agent of the Year in 2005, was sentenced to 11 years and a day; Compean got 12 years.

Border Agents Get 10 Years For Shooting Drug Dealer

Border agents Ramos and Compean said they shot the fleeing Aldrete (an admitted drug dealer) as he fled back across the border. Aldrete was shot in the butt.

The agents say the shot in self-defense, but Aldrete claims that he was unarmed (seeing as how he was a drug dealer and illegal, who could possibly doubt his word? Drug dealers are never armed, right?)

Apparently Judge Kathleen Cardone bought the story and sentenced Ramos to 11 years and a day. Compean got 12 years.

Since their convictions, support for the agents has swelled. Several prominent lawmakers have even called for a congressional investigation into the prosecutions.

The union representing most rank-and-file Border Patrol agents established a legal defense fund. And civilian border watch groups have asked the U.S. Attorney General's office to review the case and throw out the jury's guilty verdicts.

Breaking News: Hispanics Ban White Authors

Illegal Immigration: Hispanics Ban White Authors

As the reconquista and invasion of the Southwestern United States continues, Hispanics have basically declared war on "gringo culture."

I was recently speaking to a "gringo" (white) friend, who lives in Southern California.  Her once predominantly white neighborhood is now 85% Hispanic. Crime has increased 800%, HIV 700%, rape and gang shootings are widespread, and a Hispanic school board recently removed the last of the "gringo authors" from the reading list.

As a result of the ban, like many other Caucasians in California, she has been forced to start a "White Home-Schooling Great-Books Program." They read primary texts, starting with the Greeks and Romans, and work their way through the Western Canon.  They study Latin, history (European and British), literature, Christianity, science, and mathematics.  I was told, "Without such a program, white children would learn nothing of their European heritage."

Hispanics, for the most part, deplore Western culture. Attached to their native lands, they do not consider themselves Western.  Only take a look at Mexico.  With the exception of a very small upper class of pure European blood, most Mexicans are either Amerindian or Mestizos (mostly Amerindian with a few drops of Spaniard blood).  In terms of genealogy, these people are primarily Asiatic, and consequently they do not identify with the West.  It is now commonplace for Hispanics to call for the removal of all "European elements" from their liturgy, and now they are actively removing all white authors from school districts.

The future looks bleak indeed.  Unless we stop this invasion, the Southwest (and beyond) will soon be a separate culture and country.  And the remaining Caucasians, if they want their children to learn about their European heritage, will be compelled to start white home-schooling networks.

Senate Sells U.S. Out

The Senate just passed a massive guest-worker/amnesty bill.
Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) said "There are plenty of things wrong with this bill, but there are plenty of things right with it."

The problem is Senator, that the majority of Americans, particularly voting Americans, would have preferred that you took the time to get it right, starting with securing the borders, period. We know how our legislators screw things up when they try to walk and chew gum at the same time.

Sixty-two sell-out Senators voted for amnesty for millions of illegal aliens who thumbed their noses at U.S. sovereignty. You can find their sorry names here at the Senate Roll Call.

The thirty-six Senators who listened to the will of their constituents are:

Alexander (R-TN)  Allard (R-CO)  Allen (R-VA)

Bond (R-MO)  Bunning (R-KY)  Burns (R-MT)  Burr (R-NC)  Byrd (D-WV)

Chambliss (R-GA)  Coburn (R-OK)  Cochran (R-MS)  Cornyn (R-TX)  Crapo (R-ID)

DeMint (R-SC)  Dole (R-NC)  Dorgan (D-ND)

Ensign (R-NV)  Enzi (R-WY)

Grassley (R-IA)

Hatch (R-UT)  Hutchison (R-TX)

Inhofe (R-OK)  Isakson (R-GA)

Kyl (R-AZ)

Lott (R-MS)

Nelson (D-NE)

Roberts (R-KS)

Santorum (R-PA)  Sessions (R-AL)  Shelby (R-AL)  Stabenow (D-MI)  Sununu (R-NH)

Talent (R-MO)  Thomas (R-WY)  Thune (R-SD)

UPDATE: Here are, in part, Missouri Senator Jim Talent's words to his fellow Senators from May 24th :
...the Senate has regrettably and inexplicably rejected common sense amendments which were designed to restore the balance Americans want and have the right to expect.
Later in his speech, he pointed to the impact this bill would have on pending cases of legal immigrants :
...The bill inevitably means that the time and attention of the Immigration Service will be spent processing the applications of undocumented workers and administering a vague new guest worker program for 70 million to 90 million people, rather than on the cases of legal immigrants which, in some cases, have been pending for years.
Here Talent nails it :
...The idea that our current immigration infrastructure can take on the real job of border security, process a multitiered amnesty program for 10 million to 12 million illegal aliens, and administer the claims of 70 million to 90 million news immigrants, in addition to its current responsibilities, is sheer fantasy.
Suddenly, Mr. Talent, I'm beginning to like you again.

Bush's Base Betrayal

Richard Viguerie has an excellent article in today's Washington Post about how conservatives have been utterly betrayed by the President and the GOP.

Conservatives tolerated the No Child Left Behind Act, an extensive intrusion into state and local education, and the budget-busting Medicare prescription drug benefit. They tolerated the greatest increase in spending since Lyndon B. Johnson's Great Society. They tolerated Bush's failure to veto a single bill, and his refusal to enforce immigration laws. They even tolerated his signing of the McCain-Feingold campaign finance overhaul, even though Bush's opposition to that measure was a key reason they backed him over Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) in the 2000 primaries.

Bush talks the talks, but seldom walks the walk.

Conservatives can thank President Bush for Judges Roberts and Alito, (though Alito came after the disastrous nomination of Harriet Miers).

And we have him to thank for tax cuts and a booming economy (of which the average Joe seems blissfully unaware).

Sixty-five months into Bush's presidency, conservatives feel betrayed. After the "Bridge to Nowhere" transportation bill, the Harriet Miers Supreme Court nomination and the Dubai Ports World deal, the immigration crisis was the tipping point for us.

Viguerie notes the obvious:

[...]

congressional Republicans have sold themselves to conservatives as the continuation of the Reagan revolution. We were told that they would take on the Washington special interests -- that they would, in essence, tear down K Street and sow the earth with salt to make sure nothing ever grew there again.

Instead, that earth is hog wallow. Republicans have tasted pork and can't get enough of "the other white meat."

He continues:

But unhappy conservatives should be taken seriously. When conservatives are unhappy, bad things happen to the Republican Party.

[...]

In 1992, conservatives were so unhappy with President George H.W. Bush's open disdain for them that they staged an open rebellion, first with the candidacy of Patrick J. Buchanan and then with Ross Perot. The result was an incumbent president receiving a paltry 37 percent of the vote. In 1998, conservatives were demoralized by congressional Republicans' wild spending and their backing away from conservative ideas. The result was an unexpected loss of seats in the House and the resignation of Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.).

The current record of Washington Republicans is so bad that, without a drastic change in direction, millions of conservatives will again stay home this November.

And maybe they should. Conservatives are beginning to realize that nothing will change until there's a change in the GOP leadership. If congressional Republicans win this fall, they will see themselves as vindicated, and nothing will get better.

Exactly.

Does that mean that I suggest that conservatives voice their discontent by voting for Democrats? Only if you're a Socialist at heart.

Can the Libertarian Party capitalize on the Republican disaster? (To be continued)

Illegal Workers Found At Fort Belvoir

An anonymous call tipped MPs at Fort Belvoir (VA) to the presence of three illegals in the back of a rental truck.

The men were turned over to ICE (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement). One one man was held in custody, due to a prior record. The other two were released and told to show up for a court appearance. [Good luck with that]

This must be some of Bush's new, tougher enforcement in action.

Harvard Economics Professor Says We Are Importing Poverty

Professor George Borjas (Kennedy School of Government at Harvard and himself an immigrant) basically says that we are importing poverty into this country:

"...an increasing number of poor in this country are foreign-born, and a disproportionately large number of immigrants are high school dropouts," Mr. Borjas said.

"Mexicans tend to be at a very low level of schooling," Mr. Borjas said. "A very large proportion have less than eight years of education, and many have only three or four years. Quite a few actually have zero."

So "immigration can have a large impact on the labor market," he said, adding: "The wages of high school dropouts have fallen between 5 [percent] to 8 percent in the past 20 years."

More Conservative Fall Out Over Bush's Immigration "Plan"

Charles Krauthammer asks "Why Is Border Security Conservative'?" in his Washington Post article of May 29th:

... Everyone knows that anything short of enough border guards to do Hands Across America from the Gulf of Mexico to the Pacific Ocean won't do a thing to eliminate illegal immigration.

The only thing that might work is a physical barrier. The president offhandedly dismisses a wall as something that could never stop the "enormous pressure on our border."

Barriers seem to work pretty well in other parts of the world. China and Israel come to mind.

As Krauthammer notes, real border enforcement is absent from Bush's plan:

Serious border enforcement is what's missing in the president's "comprehensive" program. And that is why so many "conservatives" are extremely unhappy. Not out of nativism. There are many like me who cannot wait to end the shadow life of the illegals. But doing so while fraudulently promising to close the border is a simple capitulation -- and an invitation to the next president to declare the next amnesty for the next torrent of illegals who will have understood from the Bush program that crossing the border at night and finding a place to hide is the surest road to the American dream.

The Senate and our President believe that voters won't notice as the enforcement portion of their "comprehensive" plan gets trampled in the stampede to give away the country to their coveted, future voting block.

Let's prove them wrong.

Senate Votes For Social Security Benefits For Illegal Aliens

Unbelievable.

From the Washington Times article by Charles Hurt (registration required):

The Senate voted yesterday to allow illegal aliens to collect Social Security benefits based on past illegal employment -- even if the job was obtained through forged or stolen documents.

"There was a felony they were committing, and now they can't be prosecuted. That sounds like amnesty to me," said Sen. John Ensign, the Nevada Republican who offered the amendment yesterday to strip out those provisions of the immigration reform bill. "It just boggles the mind how people could be against this amendment."

The Senate voted to table Ensign's amendment, SA 3985. You can see the roll call votes here. (Missouri's Senators voted against tabling the amendment.)

Voter's MUST start asking political candidates if they will promise to limit themselves to two terms. Better yet, we should start hounding Washington to pass term limits.

Reactions to this bit of Senatorial wisdom, from die-hard REPUBLICANS no less :

Mary Kathrine Ham, blogging for Hugh Hewitt: " I told a couple of apolitical friends about the Social Security amendment last night and they thought I was joking."

Ann Coulter (I'm quoting her?! Oh, how far I've fallen): "Press "1" for English; press "2" for a new president ..." (Hat tip to La Shawn Barber for that link)

Michelle Malkin: Notes that an illegal Guatemalan provided fake I.D. to 9/11 terrorists. (Thanks again to La Shawn)

Rush Limbaugh: "Legalizing identity theft..."

Update: While Hewitt, Ingraham, Hannity, etc., seem to think that the solution to all this nonsense is talking sternly to the Republicans and then VOTING FOR THEM AGAIN in November, Boortz (as usual) has a better idea, namely, using the NUCLEAR OPTION.

Force the Republicrats to lose control of the House in November and send a warning shot over the bow of the Senate.

Not that I want the Democrats, God forbid, to be a majority in both bodies.

Not to worry. The Senate will constantly override the House, resulting in gridlock.  Come 2008, voters can then reassess the situation.

Sigh. Of course, I can always hope that the Libertarian party actually gets with the program and fields a credible candidate in '08. Come on guys, think MORE liberty, not "I want everything all at once, or nothing at all."

I'm praying that the party actually listens to the Libertarian Reform Caucus.

Sen. Jeff Sessions: Impact of Senate Immigration Bill

U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) today unveiled an impact analysis that shows the Senate immigration bill – should it become law – would permit up to 217.1 million new legal immigrants into the United States over the next 20 years, a number equal to 66 percent of the total current population of the United States.

Even if the maximum levels are not reached, the increase to the U.S. population caused by S. 2611 will be at least 78.7 million in 20 years, just over 25 percent of the total current population. This lower estimate assumes that the bill's escalating caps on certain visas will not increase at all over the next 20 years; if the bill's caps are hit each year, the total number will be the higher estimate.

“Until now, most of us have focused on securing the border and deciding how to treat the illegal alien population already in the United States,” Sessions said. “Few, if any, of us have looked ahead to see what the long-term numerical impact of the bill would be. My staff and I have just completed such a study, and the results are shocking.

Missouri Senator's Immigration Votes

Senator Bond voted against the Bingaman amendment (along with the likes of  Kennedy, Specter, McCain, and Mr. Pork, Stevens from Alaska) which would have capped the guest worker program at 200,00 per year.

Thumbs up to Senator Talent, for voting for the Dorgan amendment, which would have killed the guest worker portion of S. 2611.

Both Bond and Talent voted for for the Isakson amendment, which would have prevented the federal government adjusting the legal status of any illegals until every border security provision in the immigration bill had been implemented and the Secretary of Homeland Security certified that the border was secure.

Numbers USA is keeping track of all the votes.

A MUCH Better Guest Worker Plan

Boorts has a logical guest worker plan posted (May 16th Neal's Nuze).

There is a way to insure that anyone in this country to participate in such a guest worker program would not stay here once their time is up.  It's really very simple.  You don't pay them.  You pay the agency that arranged for them to be here.  When their time is up, the money is gone.

...You set up some employment agencies that specialize in obtaining Mexican guest workers for U.S. businesses that need the extra or seasonal help.  These employment agencies are hired by and paid by the private businesses who need the workers.  They obtain the workers from Mexico and provide for their transportation to their place of employment in the U.S.  The employer pays the agency for the workers, and then the agency pays the workers.  When the temporary guest worker assignment is over, the employer stops payment to the agencies and the money to the guest worker dries up.  We would need harsh -- extremely harsh -- penalties for any employer that tries to pay a guest worker directly.  Under this system the agencies are responsible for transportation to and from the U.S. and making sure the workers get paid.  These agencies, of course, would work under strict federal regulatory supervision.

The key to this ... and the key to removing any suggestion of amnesty ... is that all guest workers in this country must sign up for the program in their home country, not here.  All ID cards for guest workers must be issued ONLY in that worker's country.  If you want American dinero, you go home to sign up.  For the rest who chose to stay here ... yank out the welcome mat.

Senate Immigration Bill Would Bury U.S. In New Immigrants

According to the Heritage Foundation, the Senate's Immigration Reform Act would open the doors to 103 million people over the course of the next twenty years, which is one-third of the current population.

Much attention has been given to the fact that the bill grants amnesty to some 10 million illegal immigrants. Little or no attention has been given to the fact that the bill would quintuple the rate of legal immigration into the United States, raising, over time, the inflow of legal immigrants from around one million per year to over five million per year. The impact of this increase in legal immigration dwarfs the magnitude of the amnesty provisions.

The Senate is being extremely short-sighted in their sudden desire to pass "comprehensive" immigration legislation now--RIGHT NOW!

Secure the border NOW and sit down and actually think the rest of it through.

Bush's Immigration Speech

Quick thoughts:

  1. Bush's people made sure that he didn't trot out that same, tired phrase "jobs Americans won't do." Instead it was "jobs Americans aren't doing."
  2. He never mentioned "virtual" fences. Instead, he referred to "high tech" fences. Must've been listening/reading Hugh Hewitt.
  3. Threw in the bit about 6,000 National Guard troops, not for the purpose of interdiction, but for "housekeeping."
  4. No amnesty. Amnesty would mean moving to the front of the citizenship queue. Apparently, if you move to the back of the line, it's something else.

By the time the Senate weasels get through further watering this down, we'll be wondering why they bothered at all. The only thing that will save this is the House, whose members seem to be made of sterner stuff.

So many loopholes...

I believe that Bush has officially split the Republican party.

NY Post: Bush's Plan On Immigration

President Bush plans to call for troops and a high-tech "virtual" fence to beef up the border with Mexico when he speaks to the nation on immigration Monday night, sources said yesterday.

The get-tough approach will be coupled with a renewed push to give illegal aliens a chance to get in line for U.S. citizenship, said a source briefed on the speech.

"He'll talk about deploying troops, strengthening border control, more raids on companies that hire illegals, a virtual fence, and letting those who are here already get in line," the source said.

The virtual fence could include lasers and unmanned aerial drones as well as cement barriers, the source said.

Then again, it could just remain a fence inside someone's head. Now THAT's virtual.

Word is that Carl Rove thinks this is just the ticket to get Republicrats out of hot water...

A "virtual fence."

Amnesty.

Well.

That should give a little extra ummpf to that virtual foot voters plant in the collective Republican butt come November.

As Hugh Hewitt puts it, " If an [sic] when the fence around the White House is taken down, voters will start believing in virtual fences. Don't ask them to accept absurdity as policy."

Fox Kvetches With Bush On Eve Of National Address

Mexican President Vicente Fox called Bush today to put in his two pesos on "comprehensive immigration reform"  before Monday's address to the nation, where  we will have another occasion to hear about all those lazy-ass Americans who wouldn't deign to clean a toilet or mow a yard, much less strangle a chicken.

White House spokeswoman Maria Tamburri said Bush made clear to Fox in the morning telephone conversation that "the United States considered Mexico a friend and that what is being considered is not militarization of the border, but support of border capabilities on a temporary basis by the National Guard."

She said the two presidents discussed cooperative efforts under way along the border and that Bush reiterated to Fox "his commitment to comprehensive immigration reform."

Meanwhile, Senator Chuck Hagel (RINO, NE) weighed in:

He said National Guard troops cannot secure the border over the long term and that he does not think it is wise even in the short term.

Senator Talent Opposes Amnesty

I missed this back in April, but Jim Talent (R, MO) issued the following concerning amnesty for illegals:

I oppose the amnesty measure being considered in the Senate. This is a nation of immigrants, but it’s also a nation of laws. Congress should not give the benefits of citizenship to those who have entered the country unlawfully; and it’s especially unfair to put them at the front of the line ahead of those who have waited patiently for years to enter the country lawfully. I will continue to support strong and effective measures to secure the border.

Points for Talent.

Blog Browse: Lowered Expectations For Bush's Address To The Nation

Excerpted from The Dragon and the Phoenix's "Bush Prepares to Drive His Poll Number to Historic Lows": "...I will read the tea leaves and tell you what the President will say [during Monday's address to the nation].

Michelle Malkin notes in "Who's Running America" that the Mexican consulate is investigating U.S. immigrations agents for arrests made on Fischer Homes construction sites. (See earlier post)

PoliPundit anticipates Bush's Monday evening speech: "The privilege of joining the line for US citizenship will be reserved for those who can prove that they’ve been committing immigration fraud, work fraud, forgery, and perjury for at least five years."

Captain's Quarters appears hopeful:"The address on Monday will almost certainly shift the rhetoric of this administration from sympathy for illegals to strengthened border security..." [Area417: The rhetoric will shift, but I believe the intent will remain exactly the same.]

What Happened to My Country? notes that an ad was taken out in the Sierra Vista Herald, thanking those nasty vigilantes, the Minutemen: "Thanks for doing what our government won't--close the border to illegal aliens. It was the quietest month we've had in many years..."

Bush May Deploy National Guard To Border

The President is expected to trot out his "plan" to help stop illegal immigration on Monday. Apparently he is considering sending several thousand Guardsman to the border.

Question. Is it to help beef up security or does the Border Patrol need help reporting the movements of the Minutemen to Vicente Fox?

Deploying the troops, along with the recent uptick of arrests at businesses employing illegals, is undoubtedly part of a show aimed at winning over the country's support for yet another amnesty plan, a.k.a. "path to citizenship."

Republicans who back Bush's call for a guest-worker program and a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants say that is precisely what they need to win over House conservatives.

While it will take very little to convince Senators to do what they already want to do, I suspect his speech (and the Senate's capitulation) will only further enrage the majority of Americans.

Should Bush's "plan" come to fruition, you can stick a fork in the Republicrats, baby, 'cause they're all done.

Raid On Construction Company Nets 75 Illegals

About 75 illegal aliens were rounded up from various Fischer Homes construction sites.

On the heels of those arrests, Robert Pratt, owner of Progressive Builders and Pratt's Quality Construction, was charged with employing and harboring illegals. Pratt was a subcontractor who provided some of those illegals for Fischer.

Rico Charges Brought Against Mohawk Industries

Mohawk Industries (Calhoun, GA) is being sued by former and current employees under the RICO (Racketeer Influenced & Corrupt Organizations) Act.

...Filed in federal court, the suit alleges that Mohawk, sometimes with help from local hiring agencies, knowingly accepted false documents, recruited illegals at the U.S.-Mexico border, and rehired undocumented workers under different names. "To the managers of Mohawk, the influx of illegals is a dream," charges Bobby Lee Cook, a local lawyer representing the workers. "To others, it might be the apocalypse."

Rico charges were charged against Wal-Mart back in 2003.

Immigration officers arrested nine illegal immigrants who were employed at Julio's Mexican Restaurant and Cantina in St. Joseph, Missouri. Link: A Republic, if you can keep it.

So much paying taxes.

And a heads-up for all you pandering politicians-- You Don't Speak For Me notes:

The opinion of Hispanics in the U.S. regarding immigration policy is often portrayed by the media as monolithic and in support of amnesty for illegal aliens and expanded legal immigration. In fact, the opinion of Hispanics in the U.S. is as diverse as the population itself. While Hispanic opinion as a whole is more favorable to proposals that include amnesty for illegal aliens, when the survey sample is limited to Hispanic citizens, the views expressed tend to be much more in line with those of the rest of the American population.

Immigration Poll

Senator Jim Talent has an online poll where you can vote on which should be our number 1 priority, border security or a guest worker program.

U.S. Government Shows Preference For Illegal Aliens Over Citizens

Our U.S. Border Patrol must keep the Mexican government privy to the movements of the Minute Men.

The US Border patrol is charged with keeping track of the Minutemen and then giving their locations to members of the Mexican government.

There you have it. Our government has the Border Patrol busy watching U.S. citizens engaged in a legal activity so they can inform a foreign government. Too bad they aren't busy keeping illegal aliens and drugs runners out instead. (I have my own ideas about how to help the drug situation and as soon as I have it in some sort of order, I'll post it).

DailyBulletin.com broke the story and writes that a US Border Patrol official confirmed it. The Bulletin quotes Founder of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps Chris Simcox as saying: "Now we know why it seemed like Mexican officials knew where we were all the time.( story link: US Government Pro-Illegals Anti-Minutemen.)

In discussing this revelation, Micheal Savage (website here) posed an interesting question. What would happen if thousands of buses loaded with U.S. citizens drove down to the border to assemble?

Now, however you feel about Michael Savage, it's an interesting question.

I'm betting that you would suddenly see the National Guard on the border; not to protect the border, but as a threat to to the citizens on this side of the border.

Rasmussen Poll: Bad News For GOP, Good News For 3rd Party

The survey also asked respondents how they  would vote if  "a third party candidate ran in 2008 and promised to build a barrier along the Mexican border and make enforcement of immigration law his top priority."

With that option, support fell sharply for both major parties. The Democrats still come out on top with support from 31% of Americans. The third party candidate moved into a virtual tie at 30% while the GOP fell to 21%.

La Raza: American Values A Potential Danger?

A Hill rat just passed along an alert that went out from the D.C. office of La Raza today warning its allies about the Alexander citizenship bill, S. 1815. . . .

La Raza's concerns. Among them, in the e-mail I'm looking at, the La Raza staffer warns: “while it doesn’t overtly mention assimilation, it is very strong on the patriotism and traditional american values language in a way which is potentially dangerous to our communities.”

Mark in Mexico gives you a glimpse of the future, courtesy of the spineless bastards in the Senate:

This may be the most cowardly and gutless act ever perpetrated on the American people by
their elected invertebrates in the Senat
e. The people marching in the
streets this past weekend waving tens of thousands of Mexican flags are
not Americans and they don't deserve to be. But they are treated as
equals to us by our pusillanimous and spineless senators. No, they are
treated as our betters. What Senator will come to your aid if you get
stopped at a port of entry with $10,100.00 USD in cash or equivalent
which you have failed to declare? Will you receive amnesty? Will you be
welcomed by bishops and "latino" or "hispanic" politicians (maybe, if
you promise to give them half)? Will thousands gather to march in the
streets waving the Star Spangled Banner on your behalf? And I would ask
you who might represent a greater threat to American law enforcement?
The American citizen carrying $101.00 too much undeclared cash or the
starving, desperate Mexican who wades across the river to break into
the first unguarded house he finds?

Mexico: We'll Do Better, Honest;)

As the Senate contemplates selling us out for lawn care and menudo, the Mexican government is going into warp overdrive with their efforts to sucker Americans into thinking Mexico will do more to stop the droves of illegal aliens stampeding across our borders.

U.S. officials have praised the Mexican overtures, which include the adoption and publishing of a new immigration policy that calls for creation of economic and housing programs that would lure Mexican workers back home and an accord to better cooperate with U.S. officials on quickly responding to border crime.

Considering the that that illegals are their main export, I find this highly unlikely.

1 In5 California HS Seniors Can't Pass The Basics

Iris is one of 73,270 California high school seniors in the same pickle  --  unable to fulfill a new state law requiring students to pass a test of basic English, math and algebra to graduate. That's 1 in 5 members of the state's Class of 2006, says the state Department of Education.

According to the article, 40,002 of those students barely speak English.

"I need a diploma," said Iris, a chestnut-haired girl who was born in Los Angeles and grew up in the Mexican state of Jalisco. "I want it. I deserve it. I've been going to school and studying. I want to have a profession."

Problem is, Iris had to say this in Spanish.

Even worse, not all of those students are immigrants.

Students have 6 shots at passing the exam before the end of their senior year. If all 6 attempts end in failure, they can enroll in adult education classes and have 2 chances per year to pass (as long as they're enrolled in school.)

If all this fails, they still have options: a "13th grade," charter schools, independent study programs.

In addition, they can still get a diploma without passing the exam; some community colleges will award a diploma through their adult education programs.

56 Illegals Rounded Up At MO Job Site

It is way past time to start hitting these companies where it hurts:

A group of 56 illegal immigrants is being held in the Christian County jail after immigration officials raided a job site in Carthage on Wednesday. During the next few days, the workers will be processed for deportation back to Mexico.

The Carthage bust comes only weeks after two Ozarks residents were charged with falsifying work visas for 300 workers. It also comes as Sen. John McCain kicks off a publicity blitz for his proposal to legalize the nation's 11 million illegal immigrants.

Of the contractors hit, one of them had been previously been cited 3 times in the past four months!

Reich Installation Services, a Wisconsin-based warehouse installation company, employed 28 of the Mexicans picked up in Carthage. Others worked for other subcontractors on a future distribution center for Schreiber Foods, according to immigration officials.

...Two insiders told investigators that over the past three years, Reich has "consistently undercut industry competitors by as much as 30 percent."

During that time, the insiders had observed "a marked increase in the number of Hispanic persons employed by Reich," the affidavit states.

Trouble At Our Doorstep

Why are our elected officials turning a blind eye, for the most part, to what is happening to our border patrol agents?

Rocks covered with flaming gasoline-soaked cloth are being hurled from Mexico at Border Patrol agents and are among the newest weapons outlaws are using. National Border Patrol Chief David Aguilar described the “flaming rocks” during a stop late Thursday at Nogales.

Aguilar says that gunmen are firing shots into Larado, Texas, and then hiding among children.

Aguilar said last fiscal year there were 778 assaults on Border Patrol agents in the Tucson sector, up from 396 the previous year.

“So far this year, there have been 154 cases,” he said. Link: Border Patrol chief voices 'very high concern' for increasing violence

When they aren't shooting across the border, they're tunneling under it or hiding on top of big rigs and riding across.

By the way, why the hell are our Border Patrol's uniforms made in Mexico? To make it easier for drug dealers and terrorists to blend in? More on that from The Jawa Report.

Some other items you might have missed: Mexican Army was likely a part of this incident at the border; Mara Salvatrucha gang members are another element oozing across our open borders.

Most troubling of all, not all the illegals crossing from Mexico are even Mexican--some are from terrorist nations. More on that here, here, here, here, and here.
