Investigative Committee SaysChurchill Lied, Stole

Faux Indian, Ward Churchill, has been charged with misconduct in his academic research.

Gov. Bill Owens said that Churchill has tarnished the university's reputation and should resign.

The committee's 125-page report said Churchill falsified, fabricated and plagiarized some of his research, did not always comply with standards for listing other authors' names and failed to follow accepted practice for reporting results.   

Of the five people on the committee, only one recommended that Churchill be fired; the others seemed to think that suspension from his duties as an ethnic studies professor would suffice. (Wrong message to be sending to the students).

f you'll recall, Churchill had this to say concerning the tragic events of September 11th:

If there was a better, more effective,  or in fact any  other way  of visiting some penalty befitting their participation   upon the  little Eichmanns   inhabiting the sterile sanctuary of the twin  towers, I'd  really be interested   in hearing about it. H.B. 1783: Scholarships Tax Credit Program

The Missouri House is considering a vote on HB 1783, which would create a dollar-for-dollar tax credit for persons or corporations that donate to private organizations that provide private school vouchers to children in St. Louis City, Wellston and Kansas City.

Teacher Honored For Going On Foodstamps

Jack Powell is being honored by a teachers union. You see, Powell is so offended by Wal-Mart that he would rather go on the public dole than shop there.

"I don't like what Wal-Mart stands for," Powell said, noting the mega-chain's scanty health insurance for staffers. "Because of all those things they can lower the prices."

He and his partner agreed to go on food stamps for their family rather than shop at Wal-Mart any longer.

1 In5 California HS Seniors Can't Pass The Basics

Iris is one of 73,270 California high school seniors in the same pickle  --  unable to fulfill a new state law requiring students to pass a test of basic English, math and algebra to graduate. That's 1 in 5 members of the state's Class of 2006, says the state Department of Education.

According to the article, 40,002 of those students barely speak English.

"I need a diploma," said Iris, a chestnut-haired girl who was born in Los Angeles and grew up in the Mexican state of Jalisco. "I want it. I deserve it. I've been going to school and studying. I want to have a profession."

Problem is, Iris had to say this in Spanish.

Even worse, not all of those students are immigrants.

Students have 6 shots at passing the exam before the end of their senior year. If all 6 attempts end in failure, they can enroll in adult education classes and have 2 chances per year to pass (as long as they're enrolled in school.)

If all this fails, they still have options: a "13th grade," charter schools, independent study programs.

In addition, they can still get a diploma without passing the exam; some community colleges will award a diploma through their adult education programs.
