Afghanistan: Muslim Clerics Clamor For Death of Abdul Rahman

Abdul Rahman stands to be put to death for converting to Christianity 16 years ago.

Abdul Rahman, 41, a medical aid worker, converted from Islam to Christianity 16 years ago, a fact that came out publicly during a civil custody case between him and his wife in front of local authorities. The authorities charged him with rejecting Islam, a crime under the country's Shar'ia-based law. The penalty, if guilty, is death.

"Moderate" cleric Abdul Raoulf states "Rejecting Islam is insulting to God. We will not allow God to be humiliated. This man must die."

The prosecutor of the case has raised questions about Rahman's mental capacity. "We think he could be mad. He is not a normal person. He doesn't talk like a normal person."

Of course, who in their right mind could possibly reject Islam?

According to a religious adviser of Hamid Karzai, if Rahman is deemed mentally ill, the charges must be dismissed.

More Butchery From The Religion Of Peace

Eight people were killed during a blast at an Indonesian market where Christians commonly shop. Jemaah Islamiyah is thought to be behind the butchery.

The early morning explosion sent ball bearings and nails tearing into vendors and shoppers, leaving the market scattered with dismembered bodies. Police and passers-by carried bloodied bodies to cars. One man, apparently unhurt, held his head in his hands as he screamed.

I was in shock and had to tell myself to move away. I screamed for help," said Kartini, who like many Indonesians uses a single name.

Police said eight people died in the attack. Hospital officials said at least 45 were wounded, with more than 20 suffering serious injuries.

The religious affiliations of the dead were not immediately released. However, the market sold only pig and dog meat, both of which are forbidden under Islam. Few, if any, Muslims would have been in the covered market.

The Fiqh Council of North America joined with the Council on American-Islamic Relations to issue a fatwa against terrorism and extremism on July 28th. You can find the text of the fatwa here.

But The Counterterrorism Blog says that the fatwa is a sham and points out that leaders of both groups have ties to terrorist and extremist groups.

Help from the Moslem community of Lackawanna, New York resulted in charges against five American citizens of Yemeni background.

Then Thompson made his statement about the Justice Department's gratitude to Moslems. "We do not want to get into the details of the investigation but we have had great cooperation from the Moslem-American community and we appreciate that a good deal."The five men were arrested late on Friday after federal agents raided several houses and an Arab social club.

Extremist Confesses to Van Gogh Slaying

Mohammed Boureri, the man on trial  for the slaying of Dutch filmmaker Theo van Gogh, told the court, given the chance, he would do it again.

Bouyeri, who was born in Amsterdam, attended prayer sessions with Redouan al-Issar , who is thought to be the spiritual leader of  the Hofstad Network. Al-Issar vanished  before the murder of van Gogh.
